I did my bachelor’s in psychology and am currently doing a Master’s in Clinical Applications of psychology.

Pursuing psychology at university level was completely by chance, I did not want anything to do with psychology because it involved the element of maths (not a very good excuse I know but I’m not a big fan of maths). However, when I was applying for sixth form I was told to choose 4 subjects and to fill in the gap of my 4th subject I chose psychology because I literally could not pick anything else because of my GSCE grades. Moving on, 6 years later I’m doing a masters in psychology because I actually enjoyed the course at sixth-form overall which overlooked the maths part of it.

Over the course of 6 years I have done a number of work placements relating to psychology. The first ever psychology related activity I did was  in year 12, It was a work shadowing placement at a firm called ‘Saville Consulting,’ who publish questionnaires  for the purpose of screening individuals to see whether they are fit for a certain company or not (personality wise). I did not like the idea of sitting behind a screen and making questionnaires, so I looked into another work shadowing opportunity with a jamaat friend, and we went to the Lewisham,. Then I did a 10 week volunteering course working with children with Autism, which was very fun because I got to work with kids and help them build a brighter future, which is one of the many reason I enjoyed it at sixth-form despite my doubts and why I continue to enjoy pursuing psychology.  It gives me a chance to give back and help society and I would like further continue working with children, may that be in schools or outside education, InshaAllah.
