All of the books that you see around you within the Ahmadiyya community, whether that be your syllabus, a storybook, a tale of a Prophet, or some of the more complex and philosophical texts of our Promised Messiah (as), have all been either reproduced or written, designed, edited and translated by a group of dedicated workers known as the Isha’at Department.
The term “Isha’at” quite literally translates to the act of ‘circulating’ or ‘propagating’. Therefore, it becomes the duty of the Isha’at department to spread the literature of our Jama’at to all corners of the world through making these texts accessible and known to all of mankind. The Department also make sure that the outstanding activities of Lajna Imaillah and its branches are appropriately publicized and that all members of the Jama’at are adequately educated on all matters. More importantly however, it is the role of the Isha’at department to spread the true message of Ahmadiyyat to the worldly population with the aim of bringing man closer to Allah the Almighty.
Hence why, in the Lajna Constitution, one of the principle roles and responsibilities for members of the Isha’at Department is that “she shall be responsible for printing and publishing gazettes, periodicals and books which Lajna Imaillah Mulk decides to publish” (no.56).
However, beyond this the Isha’at Department also seeks to encourage members of the Jama’at to write essays, articles, and undertake research on Islamic matters. This is especially important in our contemporary society where the world is rapidly declining into a state of chaos and injustice. Thus, we should try our utmost best to spread the peaceful solutions and teachings of Islam-e-Ahmadiyya through the Jihad of the pen as is the objective of the Isha’at Department!
